Welcome to the Santa Rosa Slow Celtic Session website!

We are a talented group of multi-instrumentalists and ballad singers who gather to play and sing Celtic music in a welcoming setting.

A Celtic session features the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, plus a few related genres.

A "slow" Celtic session, as opposed to the "traditional" or "fast" Celtic session, is supportive of less experienced players (as long as they play appropriate instruments and respect the traditions of the music) and also strongly encourages singers of traditional Celtic songs. We are not so interested in high-speed virtuosity, and more interested in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and having fun while keeping the traditional music alive.

We are a "session", which is not the same thing as a performing band. We don't know in advance what tunes we will play, and we don't rehearse together. Instead, we rely on our musicianship and knowledge of the genre to choose and play tunes on the fly. It's spontaneous, relaxed and participatory.

We are an open session, which means any player of an appropriate instrument who has familiarity with Celtic music can participate. If you're not sure you fit that description, please discuss your participation with the session leader, Mitch, in advance.

Schedule

We'll be playing at Gaia's Garden, 7-9:00 PM, on the THIRD WEDNESDAY of every month.
